Even though there is a call in the code that should make the data persist (if memory serves me right), it does not appear to do so. I had lost my data in one instance (where my battery went completely dry) and I have confirmed that the files are not written while the tool is running.

I added autosaves when entering normal mode in 233e4ebb29. That should fix this.
